We finally took our first family vacation, just the 4 of us and the destination was ... Disneyworld!
The girls were awesome, well behaved, no complaining or asking to buy this or that (and everything is made for you to buy over there!).
After a 7h drive, we arrived at our hotel the All Star Movies. The girls did great in the car without a DVD player, just a few books. We stayed in the 'Mighty Ducks' section. We decided to take the bus to Downtown Disney for dinner.

At the hotel
During our 5 days-stay we visited 4 parks: Animal Kingdom, Magic Kingdom, MGM Hollywood Studios and Epcot.
The first day, we got up bright and early to head to the Animal Kingdom. We first went on the Kilimanjaro Safari. We got to see all kinds of animals from really close (giraffe, rhinos, birds, elephants...). After that, the girls went on their first ride, the TriceraTop Spin! Claire wanted to go a second time so Maman took her while Papa and Emilie were walking around. After that we headed to the Festival of the Lion King show which was spectacular. We then headed to the Rainforest Cafe where we had reservations for lunch. It was nice but nothing to brag about and Emilie did not like the thunderstorm noises... After lunch we went for a walk on the Maharajah Jungle Trek. We then walked around a bit and decided we had enough for the day so we headed back to the hotel for a 'nap' and a swim.

Tuesday was Magic Kingdom Day. We got to the park for the opening show and went straight to Fantasyland where we were able to pretty much go on all the rides we wanted without having to wait! We started with Dumbo, then Winnie the Pooh's adventures, It's a small World, Peter Pan's Flight, Mad Tea Party. When we got to Cinderella's Carrousel. One of the staff members approached us and asked Emilie if she wanted to be a princess. She agreed and he made her Honorary Princess for the Day. Gave her a sticker to put on her shirt and a certificate. Claire was being really shy but she got the same 'treatment'. He then introduced both girls to the people in line and since Emilie was Honorary Princess, he showed her to Cinderella's horse, the only horse with a golden ribbon. She LOVED the fact that she got to ride on Cinderella's special horse!

After that, Emilie saw Winnie and wanted to meet him so we stood in line for a few minutes and the girls got to meet Winnie, Tigger and Darby!. That day was all about meeting characters for Emilie.

Before lunch we took one more ride on the Indy Speedway, quite bumpy since the girls were doing the 'driving'. We had lunch and then went on the Tomorrow Transit Authority, a small train/monorail that went around part of the park. We followed our day with the Astro Orbiter, the fastest ride we took with the girls and pretty high as well. We then used our fastpass for the Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin. Claire loved it but Emilie did not like it.

We then had a surprise for them, especially Claire. We took them to the Barber Shop at the Magic Kingdom, where they cut all of the princesses and other character's hair ; ). It was Claire's FIRST haircut! So it was very special for her. She left with a certificate and a Minnie Mouse hat with 'first haircut' embroidered on the back. Both girls also got some magic 'dust' in their hair. Very exciting...

After a nap at the hotel, we headed to MGM Hollywood Studios. We saw the Playhouse Disney show and the girls got to meet some of their favourite characters. Handy Manny and the Little Einsteins. We got a little rained on but nothing that would stop us. We saw the Muppets 3D show and called it a day.

On Wednesday, we had another wonderful day planned for them. We went to Epcot. The girls LOVED that park because they got to do 'projects' as Emilie would say. Each of the countries represented there had some mask and pictures for them to color which they loved. Our next surprise was a character lunch with Princesses. We went to the Akershus Royal Banquet Hall in Norway and while we were enjoying delicious Norwegian food, the girls got to meet and speak with Cinderella, Belle, Aurora a.k.a Sleeping Beauty, Ariel and Jasmine. Their face just lit up when they saw them enter the room. That was priceless and one of the highlights from this trip!

In the afternoon, the girls got to do more activities, more rides and also take part in a parade with the American Fife & Drums Corp. They both received a Declaration of Independance in parchment paper.

On Thursday, we went back to Magic Kingdom for more rides, shows and meeting with characters.

As they enjoyed Epcot so much, we then headed back there on Friday and finished the day by the pool and at the playground before heading home on Saturday morning. Claire ended up getting sick in the car as we had just started to head home and the rain came down on us during the whole drive home but ...

... It was a GREAT family vacation ! I took over 400 pictures! Everybody had a wonderful time and it was very nice to just spend time together without phone or internet (Mike only checked his work email once a day!). We are looking forward to more of those after Mike comes back from his Deployment to Irak.
